Make a Friend For Boris
This video introduces the idea of powerful choices and encourages the children to make a friend for Boris.

The Boris Story
We would love to introduce you to Boris the Robot! Boris was built from old gears and cogs and other unwanted bits and bobs. He was lovingly made by Amber and Josh who invite Boris to live with them. So why does Boris sometimes still hear the Scrapman's song calling to him 'Junk is junk, it's plain to see, scrap is scrap and always will be. What's rubbish is worthless, you cannot pretend. It's a life on the scrapheap for you my old friend!’ Which voice will Boris listen to How will he decide where he really belongs? Watch and see . . . and please let us know what you think!

Boris Buddy Play Leader Training
Boris Buddies: ‘Becoming the Heart of the Playground’ Big Idea: A Boris Buddy doesn't just play games—they help every child feel seen, safe, included and valued. Each lesson will help children to understand what the qualities of a HeartSmart play leader are, and are given the ‘HeartSmart’ tools to become fully fledged Boris Buddies. Award Certificate included

Teaching Heartsmart with mixed age classes

Intervention Lessons - 6 weeks
A series of six 15-minute intervention lessons designed specifically for the children who need extra support with social and emotional skills. What's included: Social interactions – Reading cues, starting conversations, navigating friendships Conflict management – De-escalating tension and finding resolution Teamwork – Cooperating, compromising, and building trust Each lesson incorporates the HeartSmart values, allowing them to integrate naturally with your existing PSHE work, though they can function independently of the lessons. Why 15 minutes? Because we know time is precious. These sessions are short enough to fit into a busy day, but focused enough to make a real difference for children who are struggling. Who can deliver them? We've designed these to be picked up by TAs, learning mentors, or any support staff—freeing up teacher time while ensuring consistency and quality.

Teacher Training - Introduction
Discuss the following questions with a colleague: What do you think of the Aristotle quote that Dave used; ‘to educate the heart without educating the mind is no education at all’ ? Do you think slogans impact your internal dialogue and decision making at all? What’s the difference between character and compliance? What does the word education mean to you? Would you describe your classroom as an environment where children’s abilities are drawn out? What do you think about the statement; love drives out fear? Dave used the word connection to articulate love. What other words could we use? The power on button is a tool to build a restorative community where I = what was I thinking at the time and O = what was the other person thinking? How might you use this today?

Teacher Training - Don't Forget to Let Love in!
Discuss the following questions with a colleague: Why do you think HeartSmart starts with developing a healthy internal dialogue? What do you think about the link between validation and having a resilient/growth mindset? Can you recognise any children in your class who often listen to the Scrapman? In what ways do you relate to Boris' internal dialogue?

Teacher Training - Too Much Selfie isn't Healthy!
Discuss the following questions with a colleague: Have you got any recent selfies you can share with each other?! Define entitlement and discuss how do you see it play out in the classroom? Who do you know that is a great listener? How does their listening to you make you feel? Why is empathy important in a friendship? A definition of codependany is, ‘I’ll work harder on your problems than you’re willing to work on yourself.’ Can you think of any relationships where you slip into this in some way? What does it look like to help someone well? Which of the 5 E’s do you think will be most helpful in helping others? Do you agree that helping people means letting them remain powerful, (even if that means allowing them to experience the negative consequence of a bad choice?) We always have the option to choose well when someone around us is being disrespectful. How do you manage this in the classroom? Describe a time when you turned a disciplinary moment into a character building opportunity for a child. i.e. allowing them to experience negative consequences as opposed to anger and punishment.

Teacher Training - Don't Hold On to What's Wrong!
Discuss the following questions with a colleague: Why is learning how to walk through disappointment, mistrust and hurt important for growing in resilience? Why does resentment hurt us more than the other person? What’s the difference between forgiveness and reconciliation? Do we ever find it hard to forgive ourselves? How kind is our internal dialogue? What do you think about the statement; the level to which we forgive ourselves impacts the level to which forgive others? What do you do to process negative emotion? Who do you process negative emotion with? How do you create space within the school day and classroom to communicate to the children that it’s ok to not always feel ok?

Teacher Training - Fake is a Mistake!
Discuss the following questions with a colleague: Do you agree with the statement that truth and love go together? Why is not having the courage or skillset to tell the truth a problem? What can we do to create a culture where children are more likely to tell the truth? What can you do to increase the open area (referring to the Johari window) in your classroom this week? What are some lies that shame whispers? Can you think of any children in your class that especially battle with shame? Why is understanding the message, ‘you are enough’ important for resilience and character? Why is having the courage to be appropriately vulnerable in our friendships important?

Teacher Training - No Way Through isn't True!
Discuss the following questions with a colleague: Why is it important to first affirm our students with the message that they are loved before they can develop resilience? Why this order? Why does sensitizing the brain to possibility and a ‘can do attitude’ lead one towards a lifestyle of overcoming challenge? What do you think about the idea that the brains is a muscle? What are steps you can take in your classroom to build self efficacy into your children? What is your internal dialogue like in regards to stepping outside your “hula hoop” comfort zone? Why is having self-efficacy and resilience important?
